To Do: Grocery Shopping Online

Kosher Grocery shopping in Brooklyn is no picnic.  If you must bring your kids along, deal with crazy parking issues, or have absolutely no more energy at the end of a long busy day, then let me introduce you to a new quality of life that is-online grocery shopping !
Here are seven reasons why doing grocery shopping online beats going to the local supermarket:

1)      You don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home and with the time saved, you can spend time doing other things that you enjoy better than shopping (e.g. good book, nice hot bubble bath, mani/pedi, reading my blog, checking out facebook).

2)      You will save money on gas, and won’t be polluting the air with stinky emissions.

3)      No more playing bumper carts with half the people in the store, while looking back over your shoulder and glaring at the person pushing the cart that just bumped into your backside, all at the same time trying to figure out if you can finish filling up your cart with dairy products before being run over by the herd.....(Phew!).  I overheard an exasperated elderly lady in the aisle saying to an annoyed worker “what do you want - I shouldn’t shop anymore?  Maybe I will bring a helicopter next time I come here” Kind of funny and also really true.

4)       No more salivating at the tantalizing delicacies and bakery goods that are calling out your name.

5)      You will do a wonderful job sticking to your grocery budget because you won’t buy anything more than what you put on your original shopping list!

6)      There is no chance of contracting a hernia or falling into your grocery cart after hauling a twenty pound watermelon onto the checkout counter

7)       You can bypass dealing with the rude people that cut in front of you in the checkout line, or the snooty cashiers that look like they’d rather be anywhere but here, doing their job.

Here are five places online that deliver in Brooklyn.  This is something to check out if you are interested in having your kosher groceries delivered, without having to leave the cozy comfort of your home!

1)      KRM. info@KRMkollel.com  AKA  The Kollel Store.

I can’t find an official website for them, but this very popular Kosher Brooklyn Supermarket has just about anything you need.   Downside to them is that you do need to go in person one time to swipe a credit card.  So you will have to venture outside and make your way to Borough Park.  I have had a four star experience with them.  They are not perfect, but they are pretty reliable, have good prices, and get my order right 95% of the time.  Occasionally I get broken eggs from them, but what do you expect?  They’re eggs after all…

As for the other four websites, I cannot vouch for them as I don’t have personal experience with them.  I would recommend doing your own research.  Go online, call friends who may have used them, and call up the store to get more detailed information.

Questions to ask the store:  What time do you deliver to my area?
What time do I need to place my order by?
What credit cards do you accept, and what is your refund policy?

And if you are feeling really lazy and fat, and want to spend a lot of money and very little mental energy preparing your food, check these people out.  If you can afford it, it might just be worth it!

Here is one more website that is not specifically kosher, but carries many kosher items.  http://www.freshdirect.com/index.jsp
It’s not cheap, but I do like this website for a few reasons:
1) Extremely well organized and user friendly online format
2) They are professional and excel at customer service.  (I love that they rate the freshness of their produce and offer advice and recipes for how to use them.)
3) You can schedule a time for them to deliver the goods and they will actually arrive in that window of time.  Keep in mind that they will not drop off the food if you are not home!
4)  They throw in a bonus peak produce item.  Once we received a free pineapple, and a couple other times they gave us a bag of cherries etc.

I predict that once you get the hang of shopping online and having your groceries delivered, you will wonder how you ever did it any other way!
