Bon Voyage 2012

When was the last time you were able to stick to your list of New Year resolutions, without fail for an entire year?

My thinking exactly!  So this time around I am going to go about it differently.
I’m going to go nice and easy on myself, and not do any of that black and white- all or nothing thinking.
If I miss a day or two (or fifty) it really doesn't mean that I can’t eventually get back on track.  I haven’t failed the mission.  I have another chance!  The only thing that is holding me down from moving forward is me!

My New Year Resolutions for 2013:  (extra long so that maybe one will stick)

Thursday, December 20, 2012

The last time I posted something, was smack dab in the middle of November…2011, and I was passionately writing about my love for Basil restaurant. Well, my passion is still there, but has been redirected to a new love that needed my full and undivided attention.

It is our brand new baby. No, not the cute cuddly kind that immediately comes to mind. Rather, it is a brand new art/boutique website called Abe and Laura that my husband and I have been nurturing since last November. It was a time when we wrapped ourselves up in a cocoon and left the world as we knew it. I let my imagination take me places, and in that mysterious time period we met with wonderful people, and developed new ideas that can only materialize when you allow yourself to dream and believe.

We took that plunge, and broke ourselves free from the positions of employees. It was thrilling and frightening as we were leaving behind that sense of calm and security that we were so used to. No longer could we depend on a captain running the big ship, while we simply floated along, going about our day, trusting in his/her care and competence.

We exposed ourselves to the freedom and risk of beginning a new business venture. We began employing people and took on the challenge of exploring the wide open world of creativity and commerce. Now, we are answering to a higher power. There is a new captain, but at times we need to remind ourselves to trust in that source. I like to call it the Force-rather than G-d or G-dess. It is much more non denominational and less sexist that way.

I do hope that you have a chance to check out the website and get to learn more about our story on the about us page. Thanks for visiting my blog. Let the Force be with you!

Basil Restaurant-Mwaaa!

Oh, Basil.  Sweet Basil.  I love you!
I woke up 5:00 in the morning with deep cravings for your delectable basil fries and that creamy truffle infused dip that came with them.   I woke up wanting another bite of your flavorful pizza with that delicious crispy crust…

Inspiration From Jennifer Lagdameo: Mom, Wife, Designer, And Not So Secret Shoe Lover!

As a stay at home mom with kids, there is nothing more refreshing and inspiring than meeting a fellow mother that managed to both raise her family and pursue her own dreams and aspirations.  Whether the  ambition is to be a designer, a lawyer, an airplane pilot, or a doctor, these moms are brave souls that know how to believe in themselves and turn their dreams into a reality.
That is why I couldn't wait to meet up with Jennifer Lagdameo, a mother of two, and the designer of Ananas handbags.  In 2004 She launched her first fashionable collection of pieces that were naturally made right here in NYC, and were popular with celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, and Jennifer Garner.

The Sheitel Hunt: A Personal Review

Last month I went on a wig/sheitel buying hunt.
I was determined to find what I was looking for and not to settle or be pressured into buying a wig that I did not simply love.  The plan was to find a wig that would be a good candidate for the classic bob haircut.  The wig had to fit into some basic criteria including 1) feel good on my head 2) European hair 3) Dark brown color.
After buying the prized wig, I planned on taking it to be cut by Eva Scrivo at her salon on Bond Street in the city.
Following are the details of my Crown Heights wig searching adventure.
